Nikon AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8 D IF ED is a fast autofocus prime lens with ultra-sonic motor for SLR cameras.

The optical scheme comprises 11 elements in 9 groups. Thanks to minimum aperture ratio of f/2.8 enables shooting in low lighting conditions without a tripod or a flash. Thanks to the 9-bladed aperture, the subjects located outside the depth of field are shown with very smooth features. Equipped with a silent ultrasonic motor providing fast and quiet autofocusing.

This lens has a size of 351.5 mm. The lens of this size it is difficult to carry. This lens weighs 4800 grams, given the weight of the camera, it may deliver long wearing problems. Minimum focusing distance 3.8 m is only for shooting distant objects. Mounting the filter has a common size. Lens fit for low light conditions. Nikon AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8 D IF ED went on sale in 1998. Currently out of production (2001) and is no longer available.
